About the event
Paul is an acclaimed novelist, essayist, poet and playwright. His works include: We. Are. Family. about which The Sydney Morning Herald wrote: Mitchell is a terse and observant writer, as alive to the particulars of Aussie idiom and experience as Tim Winton, but less showy. His male characters have an unnerving, archetypal quality to them, and the constraints of gender make them ill-equipped to see or share a legacy of trauma, of which Mitchell makes the reader acutely conscious.
Of Matters of Life and Faith, Helen Garner wrote: It's calming and heartening to watch a father quietly sift his daily life for what is sacred.
Of Pauls poetry Michael McGirr has written: Paul Mitchell has a deep love of the human condition and celebrates it with warm, witty, wise and wonderful words. He peers deeply into the cosmic comedy and weaves poetry of humour and compassion from all its colours.
