High Profile Donor supports ‘The Solar Pergola Project’

Created: Tuesday, 17 May 2016

The Solar Pergola Project at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre is gaining momentum thanks to high profile donor Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP. The campaign was launched on Sunday 24 April, with a Long Lunch Fundraiser raising $1000. A $500 donation from Lisa Chesters MP is a great boost to the fund.

“I am very pleased to be able to offer my support to the local Maldon community, if we all invest a little, we can make a great difference” said Lisa Chesters MP.

We are inviting the local community to invest in the future of the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre by helping us raise $6000 to install a 3kw solar panel system on the purpose-built pergola in the community garden. Estimates show that the move to renewable energy and split systems will save $1000 off our electricity and gas bills every year and 4 tonnes of carbon – for the next 25 years.

“We want to model sustainability for our community – as well as make good use of our limited funding. Rather than spend $1000 on heating, we can spend this money on worthwhile programs like the Maldon Community Lunch”, says Coordinator Amy Atkinson.

The Solar Pergola Project is now open and receiving donations, please visit http://www.thepeoplessolar.com/projects/mnc if you would like to make a contribution and join our high profile supporters. The campaign will be open until mid-June.

For more information on the campaign please visit http://www.thepeoplessolar.com/projects/mnc or contact Amy Atkinson at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on 5475 2093 or info@maldonnc.org.au.
