We're renovating!

Created: Tuesday, 28 September 2021
MNC is making some home improvements.

Over the coming year the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre will be planning and preparing for some much-needed upgrades to our Centre. First to get underway is replacement of the hall roof. Mount Alexander Shire Council have secured funding via the Local Road and Community Infrastructure Grant from the Australian Government. They are evaluating the tenders for the job at the moment.

We are excited to complete this important safety work and are working to ensure there will be minimal interruption to our regular activities. We are also preparing plans for some extension work which will include:

Integrating the toilets into the building

Making the accessible toilet compliant with disability access legislation

Increasing the office space

Improving capacity to supervise children (part of our childcare provision)

Increasing activity space

We will be making sure the renovations are shaped by our community and are seeking community involvement. It would be great to hear your voice as part of the process, so please get in touch if you would like a PDF copy of the plans or pop in to view the plans on display.

Signing up to our e-news will provide regular information about opportunities to have input, and reports about where the renovations are at as it all unfolds.
We look forward to working together on this exciting project to improve your Neighbourhood Centre.

Community Pantry is back!

Created: Tuesday, 31 August 2021

As Maldon, along with the rest of regional Victoria, bounces in and out of lockdown, the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre has re-started the Maldon Community Pantry – town-wide delivery of frozen meals – instead of running the popular Community Lunch on Wednesdays.

“Unfortunately we cannot run the Community Lunch under the current restrictions.”explains Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator, Amy Atkinson. “The Community Pantry is a friendly way to provide some extra support to residents during lockdowns. Frozen meals are delivered in a COVID-safe way and there is often a chance for a chat and catch-up too.”

The meal deliveries will continue during lockdowns and as restrictions ease Community Lunch will resume.

Over 700 meals were delivered across Maldon during the extended lockdown in 2020 reaching community members living alone or those particularly vulnerable to COVID

According to last years meal recipients, “The meals are excellent, full of vegetables and of a good size.” “I love to see a friendly face delivering the food, it improves my day.”

If you are interested in having one or more meals delivered, please call 5475 2093 or email info@maldonnc.org.au. For $5 donation, you receive a home-delivered frozen main meal.

Maldon Neighbourhood Centre will be rescheduling all planned activities effected by the current lockdown and in the spirit of optimism, have lots more opportunities for learning, gathering and connection in the coming months.

"I've always assumed 'welcome' wherever I go" (Maldon resident).

"You have to learn how to go out and meet people when you go to a new place ... you have to take yourself outside your comfort zone ... it's about getting out where there are other people around ... lockdown has really screwed me in that way! " (new Maldon local).

The Connect Maldon project, undertaken in 2020, has built a picture of local social and community life - how people connect, what it's like to be new here, and what makes for a sense of belonging. It also provided opportunity to try out some ideas for things that might work to connect people with eachother and the community. Our themed social walks - iso-breakers - were one fun solution. These walks will continue as part of Maldon Neighbourhood Centre's ongoing programming.
