A Big Year in 2017

Created: Tuesday, 13 December 2016

The Maldon Neighbourhood Centre is busy preparing for a big year in 2017 with many new projects and programs in the pipeline.

There is a great variety of short courses, workshops and classes on offer at the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre throughout the year. Coming up in 2017, we have Introduction to Interior Design run by experienced educator and designer Robyn Sturgeon, who is a recent arrival to Maldon.

We will be offering the 5 week Simple Woodwork course at the Maldon Men’s Shed again – this time with a selection of projects to choose from. Josie Emery will be back due to popular demand teaching professional writing and we have a range of health and well-being classes including tai chi and yoga.

The successful ‘Appy Hour’ Digital Learning Pop-Up will be run again at the Kangaroo Hotel so make sure you hop (or pop?) in to improve your digital skills in a relaxed and informal setting.

Let's make our communities more Age Friendly

Created: Thursday, 20 October 2016

Age Friendly Consultations FINAL

Come along and have your say at one of the five Age Friendly consultations that are happening across the Mount Alexander Shire in October. There will be a number of projects rolled out in 2017 and 2018 to help older community members participate fully in community life and to support the health and wellbeing of people over 65 years.

Representatives from Castlemaine Community House and Maldon Neighbourhood Centre have spoken with key agencies that work with or for older people and have developed project concepts from these conversations.

“We want the communities across Mount Alexander to tell us which projects are right for them, and how they can be improved to best meet community need” explains Centre Coordinator, Amy Atkinson from Maldon Neighbourhood Centre. “There will be consultation events held in Taradale, Castlemaine, Newstead and Maldon.”

Community buses will be available to transport interested community members to the consultations.

“We have a number of volunteer Positive Ageing Ambassadors hosting small group discussions about the project concepts as well as the five larger consultation events.” Said Martyn Shaddick, Manager Castlemaine Community House. “We would like to hear from a diverse range of community members and we encourage everyone to get involved”.
