Long Lunch launch of the Solar Pergola project

Created: Tuesday, 12 April 2016

The Maldon Neighbourhood Centre will be launching its new project “Powering Our Community: The Solar Pergola Project” on Sunday 24 April with a Long Lunch Fundraiser.

We are inviting everyone to invest in the future of the Maldon community by raising $6000 to install a 3kw solar panel system on the purpose-built pergola in the community garden. This will reduce our heating bills by $1000 every year so we can contribute even more to our community.invitationposter

Funds raised from the Long Lunch Fundraiser will go towards our $6000 target but the Long Lunch will also be a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy our wonderful neighbourhood centre.

“We are lucky to have a neighbourhood centre available for all the community to use and enjoy. We want to be here for generations to come so we see the solar panels as an investment in the future” says Coordinator, Amy Atkinson.

The Maldon Neighbourhood Centre comprises the hall, classroom, office and lounge area, toilet facilities, play space and community garden. Over time, the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Committee and staff have worked to keep the spaces in a great condition for all who use them – whether it be families using the Occasional Childcare service, the Maldon Movies Film Society or the health and fitness classes.

The new split systems and solar panels are very important because the hall needs to be at a safe and comfortable temperature, particularly for the young and elderly. The added expense of operating the split systems will be offset by the power generated by the solar panels – we can keep those savings for other important maintenance, particularly the beautiful stained glass windows in the hall which need some TLC.

We hope that you can join us on Sunday 24 April from 12.30pm and enjoy a long lunch with good company. Tickets are $35 for adults or $15 or children, please RSVP to the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre by Tuesday 19 April, 5475 2093 or info@maldonnc.org.au.
