Community Transport Service better than ever!

Created: Wednesday, 28 August 2019
The Baringhup-Maldon Community Bus, managed by the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre, gets better all the time – thanks to support from the State Government who have provided additional funding towards development of the community transport service. Funding has been used to purchase equipment and extend the service to Maryborough and Kangaroo Flat.

“We have been able to buy a car seat suitable for children aged 12 months to 8 years, install additional grab rails and buy a bicycle rack which fits up to 2 bikes," explains Peter Strang, Community Bus Working Group member and volunteer driver. “The Community Bus is now fit for all the community – young and old!”

"After consultation with our passengers, we are extending the service into Maryborough and Kangaroo Flat. This gives people a lot more choice about where they shop and access health and well-being services,” explains Amy Atkinson, Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator.

The Community Transport Service runs on Tuesdays and Fridays all year round – except public holidays. It is an affordable door to door service which operates on a schedule. Please call the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on 5475 2093 the day prior to book your seat and check out the new timetable here. The new timetable to Kangaroo Flat & Maryborough will start from Tuesday 3 September.

The Community Transport service is available for anyone to use – there are no eligibility requirements. Our service is passenger- focussed, designed primarily to support older, vulnerable or transport disadvantaged members of the community to access services and participate in community life. It is a useful service for those looking to reduce private vehicle use and lower carbon emissions.

The Service will continue to transport passengers from smaller towns – Maldon, Baringhup, Campbells Creek, Barkers Creek and Wesley Hill – into Castlemaine to access basic services, including shops and medical clinics, and to maintain independence and social connections.

Try the Community Transport Service today – call the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre on 5475 2093 for more information or to book your seat.
